You should plan your budget for kitchen remodeling based on your savings and income. First, decide how much you WANT to invest in the remodeling, then, how much you can AFFORD, and then, how much you will ACTUALLY invest in the project. After that, proceed to the next step….
Once you decided on the investment amount, write down all the things you want to buy, such as appliances, tile, faucets, cabinet, counter-tops, etc. Next, get a quote for each of these items, and get it from 2 or 3 places. In addition to that, get 2 or 3 quotes for labor, such as removing old items, making repairs if needed, and installing the new items, i.e. the cabinets and tile. Now, add up all the expenses, then….
Balance the expenses for the remodeling, and the money you allow for the project. After you sum it all, if your expenses exceed the allowed budget, you might want to choose less expensive items and/or materials, such as less expensive appliances or tile, or, you might even want to remove some items from the remodeling.
Now, go through the process of adjusting the expenses and allowed monies for the project, until you reach a balance between these two. Although it might take some time, it is a necessary part of the process.
Lastly, it is always a good thinking to add extra 10% to the budget, for unexpected expenses during the kitchen remodeling.
